Try Something New: This summer I decided I was going to apply for a creative design internship at Riffraff. I knew I didn’t know a lot about creative design but the point of an internship is to learn right? And that is exactly what happened. I learned more than I even imagined I would, and every bit of it I feel was beneficial: from what it is like to come to work everyday doing a job you genuinely enjoy, to creating email concept designs and social media content. Granted, one month may not be enough time to try a new job but you could start with a new food or a new hairstyle.
Suggestions – Arsaga’s Toast at Arsaga’s on Center St. (my fav place)
Go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go: There is no better time than the holidays to take off work and do a mini vacay. Even just a weekend road trip with your best friend. Make memories in a city that you’ve never been before.
Suggestions – Nashville, Palm Springs, Boston, Kansas City, New Orleans or Dallas.
Reflect & Give Thanks: Write a note to someone who you’re thankful for. Letters don’t happen enough these days, it means so much more when you take the time to hand write something and then that person always has it. Or start a journal, that way this time next year you can look back and see what you were interested in or thinking about. I started my daily journal a little less than a year ago and now writing in it every morning is like a habit. Every once in awhile I will flip back threw it and you’d be surprised what you forget you were even thinking about a month ago.

At the beginning of this semester I decided to apply for a creative internship at RiffRaff, out of my surprise and little knowledge of fashion (I am an art major) I got the internship and little did I know it would be one of the best decisions I have made thus far in my college career. Here’s a few reasons why you should consider applying to be a RiffRaff creative intern.
The office: I can guarantee there is no other office like Riffraff. From the second you walk in the walls are perfectly decorated with endless quotes, celebrities, fashion and patterns. There is always music playing in Alex’s office while we work. It is a chill environment, but everyone is always hard at work.
The #clubriffraff: Club RiffRaff refers to office parties and events that we have, if you have not noticed the hashtag is often used on the RiffRaff HQ Instagram. Once a semester the interns create an event and this year we got to plan friendsgiving, it was one of my favorite memories from the internship. I loved getting to know everyone in the office at this event and be able to hang out with them.
The confidence it gives you: At the beginning, I was a little intimidated of going to work. I did not nearly have as much fashion knowledge as everyone else and I doubted my abilities. However, I learned that I just need to be confident and trust myself and know that Alex trusted me as well. The best feeling was when people would comment on how good a blog post was or that we were doing a great job.
The freedom you are given to use your creativity: A few weeks in we were assigned a social media platform, I was given the blog, something that I had no prior experience with. I got to design and format everyone’s posts and come up with my own ideas. With hundreds of views a day I was trusted with what I thought was best to put on it and I loved the freedom of that. Honestly, I will be a little sad next semester when I can’t check up on this blog anymore.
The #RiffRafflove: I have grown to know so much about this brand and I am so proud to be a part of it and see all of the behind the scenes. I love being able to say that I am a part of this amazing company, it amazes me that I was even given the chance to make a difference here.
The inspiration: I have learned how to find in inspiration in everything around me, something I thought I already knew how to do since I am an art major but I found that I was able to just walk down to the online warehouse and look at a shirt and come up with an amazing email subject. Or I will be at home and see something and think that would be a great blog post. I love having so much inspiration around me and at the office in general.
The people: I get to work with some of the most amazing and talented people. It is so fun to watch Alex, the social media, graphics and branding director come up with new ideas and create new ways to improve the website and Instagram. I also love being able to work with the creative interns and be able to bounce ideas off of each other to achieve the best final product. You also get to work in the same office as Kirsten, who if you did not already know is the owner and creator of RiffRaff. She is the brain behind the clothes and everything RiffRaff does and is it truly an incredible experience to work with her and see what she does.
The rewards: Not only do you get a nice discount, but getting to see your ideas come to life, influence the brand and be seen by thousands of people is such a rewarding feeling and I could not recommend this internship enough.
