Why Shop Local?:

The Economy
Spend $100 at a local business and $68 of that returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. Spend the same $100 at a national chain and your community only sees $43. Local businesses create higher-paying jobs for our neighbors. More of your taxes are reinvested in your community- where they belong.

The Environment
Buying local means less packaging, less transportation and less infrastructure and more money for your community.

The Community
Local retailers are your friends and neighbors. Support them and they’ll support you. Local Businesses donate to charities at more than twice the rate of national chains.

We really think one of the most valuable things about this weekend is that it is highlighting small businesses. They make up the fabric and texture of our neighborhoods and have been adversely affected by the shift in the economy. It’s fantastic that our country has chosen to focus on this segment of business at this critical time. We encourage all to imagine their downtown dramatically altered by empty storefronts. If they are concerned about it, it is important they shop the stores they want to see continue and thrive.
