♥ Handwrite the thank you note: bust out the pen and paper and write a heartfelt letter. Although it would be a lot easier to write up an email or type out a word document, a handwritten thank you note is the most sincere form of gratitude. Trust us, the extra effort will go a long way.
♥ Use stationary: an embossed thank you card with a complimentary envelope looks a lot better than a piece of notebook paper tri-folded in a plain envelope. Sure this will cost you a little extra but you don’t have to splurge on personalized stationary. You can find decent box sets that are cute but still affordable!
♥ Personalize it: don’t just thank the person for “the gift”. Use more descriptive words. For example, if this person got you a picture frame say something like, “Thank you so much for the picture frame. It’s going to look great in my room and I have the perfect photo for it.” Also, if you’re going to see this person in the future add that you are looking forward to it or, if you just saw them, say it was great seeing them and that you look forward to hopefully seeing them again soon.
♥ Send it no matter what: even if it’s late, always send a thank you note. Don’t be embarrassed that weeks have passed. Everyone is busy and this takes time. Plus, this will show the person that you have been thinking about them during these weeks. It’s better to send it late then never at all.
♥ Take your time: what good is a thank you note if you can’t even read it? Write slowly, make sure you’re spelling correctly, using correct grammar, and that it is legible. Use a nice, fine-point pen that won’t bleed or smudge. Also, if your cursive is up-to-par, use it. Cursive will add character and make the note’s appearance that much better. If your cursive is no good then stick with print.
♥ Say thank you for the small things: whether your neighbor picked up your mail while you were on vacation or invited you to a dinner party–always send a thank you note. This will show your sincere appreciation and it will probably guarantee that they will help you out or invite you over again in the future!
We can’t stress enough how sincere a handwritten thank you note is. Even if you said thank you in person, don’t assume that that is enough. A thank you letter is always much appreciated. We hope this helps you write your next thank you note!
