10 Ways to Start Summer Now

summer blog header

My favorite time of year (SUMMER) is almost here! Here are 10 things you should start doing today to gear up for the season of sunshine, road trips, aloe vera, lake days, sno cones and fireworks.

get your water fix

I frequently get texts from my mother that read: “are you still forgetting to drink water?” It’s kind of a problem in my life. But I really am going to try to start drinking at least a few glasses a day. As annoying as it is to take 30 seconds to fill up my water bottle, the benefits are endless!! It helps speed up your metabolism and brightens up your skin—two things that are essential to make you feel like your best, healthiest self for the summer!

You can even deck out your water bottle in some of our super fun stickerz!!!!

start your perfect summer playlist

Here are 5 songs that are currently on repeat and will be for the next 5 months! Beautiful Drug by Zac Brown Band, Formation by Beyoncé (duh), 7 Years by Lukas Graham, Work From Home by Fifth Harmony, and Sorry by Justin Bieber bc I will never get over that one.

self-tanner, baby

After my week-long spring break trip to the beach I only have a sort-of bronze glow #blessup so to get that sun kissed look, keep my skin healthy and prevent wrinkles I’ll be stocking up on this: https://keep.com/self-tan-bronzing-mousse-by-st-tropez-self-tan-range-st-tropez/p/_p9RYHgAjm/

buy a book to read

I recently read the book Me Before You by Jojo Moyes…it’s one of those that makes you think about life! It’s coming to theaters at the beginning of summer and I am such a visual person so the fact that it has a movie trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0MmkG_nG1U ) to go with it rocks!

make a summer bucket list

The summer before I came to college my best friend and I made one of these and it was SO MUCH FUN! We included things like go camping, dye our hair a different color, have a backyard movie night, go to the farmer’s market, get a henna tattoo, and take a road trip!

find your perfect swimsuit

Here at Riffraff we just got a ton of amazing swimsuits!!!! I’m obsessed with this one because a) the pattern is so fun and b) one-pieces are so in this year!

spring cleaning

Raise your hand if you can remember the last time you dusted your house/apartment………..to me there’s nothing better than doing a solid deep clean before summer kicks into full gear! Also, go through your closet and donate/sell things that you haven’t touched the past few summers. Last year my roommate was going through her closet and found a tank top stuck in between two other shirts and said “Oh my gosh I wore this to my sixth grade birthday party.” SIXTH GRADE. WE WERE SOPHOMORES IN COLLEGE. I think I might have passed out.

start exercising (lol)

I am definitely a huge advocate for looking like you’ve just worked out but not actually ever working out. However, I’ve made it a goal to work out a little bit each day to gear up for swimsuit season. I recently downloaded the Blogilates app and it has a “Beginners Workout Calendar” and everyday there’s a different 25-minute-long workout video for you to do! I’ve only done it for 2 days so far but I can honestly say my abs (okay not abs bc they’re not there but my abdominal region) is sore!! However, if you don’t want to download the app and be as committed (ask me how I’m doing in two weeks), as I am then just check out her website: http://www.blogilates.com

buy a concert ticket

One of my absolute favorite things to do is go to at least a few outdoor concerts a year! Here in Northwest Arkansas we are lucky enough to have the Walmart AMP! They always have a ton of great concerts that aren’t outrageously expensive! Last summer I went to a Fifth Harmony concert (haha)

Here’s the website if you want to check it out: www.arkansasmusicpavillion.com

stock up on summer basics

Last but definitely not least, here’s a perfect #Riffrafflove inspired, everyday summer outfit:

  • one teaspoon: bandits shorts-blue jacks
  • keep it simple swing tee-white
  • charlie southern: retro state hat-Arkansas
